Crest Police to host National Night Out event

Crest National Night Out 4The Borough of Wildwood Crest Police Department will host a fun-filled evening of free activities for the entire family on Tuesday, Aug. 2, as part of the National Night Out campaign. The event will be held at Centennial Park, located at Fern Road and Ocean Avenue, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Wildwood Crest National Night Out festivities will include live music, food, games, prizes, giveaways and more for the entire family. Moon bounces, a face painter and a dunk tank will be included in the fun.

Representatives from the Wildwood Crest Police Department, Fire Department, Ambulance Corps, Beach Patrol and Recreation Department, as well as a handful of Cape May County agencies, will all partake in the event. Emergency vehicles from a variety of departments from both Wildwood Crest and Cape May County will line the Centennial Park area.

Rolling Stones tribute band at Centennial Park Saturday

glimmertwinsheaderSome consider the Rolling Stones the greatest rock-and-roll band in the world. Fans of the Stones can get a taste of why this weekend at the Jersey Shore.

The Glimmer Twins, a tribute band that amazingly recreates the look and feel of a Rolling Stones concert, are set to play at Centennial Park Saturday, July 30 at 7:30 p.m. as part of the Wildwood Crest Summer Music Series.

An eight-piece band, The Glimmer Twins are keen to give their audiences a close-up view and feeling of one of the many historical Rolling Stones performances from the band’s heyday. The Glimmer Twins’ possess an uncanny ability to capture the raw energy of a Rolling Stones show, while playing all of the band’s hits recorded over their illustrious career. The strong resemblances to Mick Jagger and Keith Richards in their prime coupled with the attention given to every detail both musically and visually help the The Glimmer Twins deliver a classic Rolling Stones experience to their audience.

The Glimmer Twins have appeared in venues all across the country and regularly perform up and down the East Coast to rave reviews. The Philadelphia Daily News once said The Glimmer Twins “demonstrate the dramatic difference between a cover band that plays the tunes and a tribute band that lives them.”

Saturday’s event is a free all-ages show. Attendees should bring a blanket or a chair.

Take “selfies” and win a T-shirt from the Crest

WWC_withtaglineLike to take “selfie” pictures and post them to social media? You can now win a cool Wildwood Crest T-shirt after doing so.

The Borough of Wildwood Crest has unveiled its new Photo Spots Contest, in which visitors and residents can post “selfie” pictures near a variety of Wildwood Crest locations and win a T-shirt featuring the new Wildwood Crest logo.

Participants in the contest are required to take “selfie” pictures with at least five of 10 different designated Wildwood Crest landmarks in the background and post them to Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. Participants are required to tag Wildwood Crest on Facebook, @VisitWildwoodCrest on Twitter or @Visit_Wildwood_Crest on Instagram while using #VisitWildwoodCrest when posting.

The first 300 people to post photos from at least five of the 10 designated photo spots will receive a Wildwood Crest T-shirt. Photos can be posted separately or together as a collage. Winners will be contacted by the Wildwood Crest Recreation Department. Winners must pick up T-shirts in person at the Wildwood Crest Pier Recreation Center.

“We came up with this contest as way for our visitors and residents to get out and see the many great landmarks and scenic locations here in Wildwood Crest,” said Don Cabrera, Wildwood Crest Commissioner of Public Works and Recreation. “Not only is this a fun contest for the participants, but it also creates free positive marketing and advertising for Wildwood Crest through a variety of social media outlets.”

The 10 Wildwood Crest landmarks include the ocean end of the Wildwood Crest Beach Pier at Heather Road, Sunset Lake between Rambler Road and New Jersey Avenue, the Centennial Park entertainment pavilion at Fern Road and Ocean Avenue, Coleman-Callahan Veterans Park at Rosemary Road and Park Boulevard, the Gazebo-by-the-Sea at Sunrise Park at Rambler Road, baseball statues at Morey Field at Aster Road and Ocean Avenue, the Wildwood Crest Bike Path Arch at Cresse Avenue, any lifeguard boat or lifeguard stand on the Wildwood Crest beach, the Wildwood Crest Bike Path at Rambler Road and the new Wildwood Crest branch of the Cape May County Library at Wisteria Road and Atlantic Avenue. Signs are posted at each of the photo spot locations.

Crest 5K Beach Race is July 30

The Borough of Wildwood Crest will stage its annual 5K Beach Race on Saturday, July 30, at 8:30 a.m. The race will be held on a scenic out-and-back course near the water’s edge at low tide beginning and ending near the Wildwood Crest Beach Pier at Heather Road. The event also includes an untimed one-mile fun run/walk.

Crest 5K beach raceCost is $25 for the 5K run and $20 for the one-mile run/walk for those registered by July 22. Costs are $30 and $25 after July 22.

Long-sleeve T-shirts are guaranteed to the first 300 registrants and as supplies last to all others. Prizes will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers, as well as the top male and female finishers in a variety of age groups. Refreshments will be served following the race and all registered participants will be eligible to win a variety of random door prizes.

The event will also include a team competition among the beach patrols from Wildwood Crest, Wildwood and North Wildwood.

Race-day registration will be held from 7 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. at the Crest Pier Recreation Center at Heather Road and Ocean Avenue. Pre-registered runners can pick up their race packet at the Crest Pier Recreation Center on Friday, July 29, from 6 to 8 p.m.

The 5K Beach Race is a rain or shine event.

B Street Band at Centennial Park Saturday

B Street Band promo photoOne of the most popular musical acts in the region is set to take the stage at Centennial Park for what should be a magical evening of live entertainment.

The B Street Band, one of the longest-running tribute bands in the world, will perform many of the hits of Bruce Springsteen on Saturday, July 16, at 7:30 p.m. as part of the Wildwood Crest Summer Music Series.

Formed in Asbury Park in 1980, the B Street Band has performed from Maine to the Bahamas for more than three million people over the last 35 years. Fronted by lead singer Glenn Stuart, a Springsteen lookalike, the B Street Band has become one of the most requested and most popular bands along the East Coast. The six-piece band regularly performs many of Springsteen’s past and current crowd favorites, while also occasionally mixing in tunes by other popular rock artists. It is estimated the band has played in more than 800 different venues across 20 different states over the last 3 ½ decades, appearing at nightclubs, local fairs and festivals, corporate events, municipal music series and more. The B Street Band regularly performs in numerous Jersey Shore destinations each summer, including an annual show at Centennial Park.

First an original band that began in the 1970s that produced a national hit record in 1975, Purple Reign regularly performs some of the most popular music of today. An outstanding rhythm section, scintillating horns and tremendous vocals allow Purple Reign to play everything from Sinatra to Lady Gaga, as well as many of the hits from disco, Motown and ‘80s and ‘90s dance music.

Fourth annual Sand Sculpting Festival Saturday, July 9

Crest Sand Sculpting 1WILDWOOD CREST – Grab your buckets and shovels, head to the beach and get ready for some fun at the fourth annual Wildwood Crest Sand Sculpting Festival, scheduled for Saturday, July 9.

Join hundreds of beach lovers at this family friendly event, which includes a FREE amateur sand sculpting contest, live music, magic show, beach games, an appearance by the Harlem Globetrotters and more.

The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. alongside the Wildwood Crest Beach Pier at Heather Road. Registration for the contest is free. The Hocus Pocus It’s Joe Fischer Magic Show will begin the live entertainment at 10:30 a.m., followed by headliners The Mango Men, with their energized and “sand-castle-inspiring” summer- and beach-themed party music.

The contest is organized in conjunction with Can You Dig It Sand Tools and directed by internationally known sand sculptor Matt Long. Long is a regular competitor at master competitions, including the World Championships of Sand Sculpting, and is an original cast member of the Travel Channel Show Sand Masters. Long’s career in sand sculpting began right here in South Jersey at amateur events like this one.

Contest registration for the fourth annual Wildwood Crest Amateur Sand Sculpting Festival will begin onsite at 9 a.m. on the day of the event. Sand pits will be assigned, with carving starting at 10 a.m. sharp. To ensure a level playing field, the contest will have seven separate divisions ranging from youth solo/groups to adult solo and teams. There will also be a pro/am division for more experienced adult sculptors.

Crest Sand Sculpting 2Sculptures will be judged on creativity, execution, composition and overall presentation. Prizes and awards will be presented to first through third places in each division. There will also be a People’s Choice award for Best On The Beach, with the winner voted by spectator ballot.

“Wildwood Crest is not just one of the most beautiful beaches I’ve ever been to, but it also has some of the finest beach sand in the world for sculpting,” Long said. “We’re very excited about how this event has grown in popularity over its first three years and we expect an even bigger and better festival on July 9.”

The Wildwood Crest Sand Sculpting Festival has also formed a partnership with the Harlem Globetrotters, who will be appearing at the Wildwoods Convention Center for four games from July 27 through July 30. Globetrotters star Bull Bullard will appear at the festival at 11 a.m. to perform tricks and meet with fans. He will also assist in the judging of the amateur sand sculpting contest. In addition, the festival will feature a custom sand sculpture to celebrate the Globetrotters’ 90th anniversary. Chatterband 2014The Chatterband, one of the Delaware Valley’s longest-running and most popular dance/party bands, will perform Saturday, July 2 at 7:30 p.m. at Centennial Park.

The Chatterband has been entertaining music lovers of all ages throughout the region for nearly 40 years. A nine-piece band featuring an exceptional horn section and a variety of singers, the Chatterband performs many of the most popular dance and party songs ever recorded, from the 1970s through today. The band regularly plays anything and everything from classic disco hits to rock anthems to the most popular songs of Frank Sinatra to today’s latest pop and dance tunes.

Jimmy Buffett tribute band kicks off Crest Summer Music Series

Parrotbeach - no logoWILDWOOD CREST – Parrotheads are expected to be out in force when Parrotbeach, a premier tribute band performing the best of Jimmy Buffett and other island- and summer-themed music, opens the twice-weekly 2016 Wildwood Crest Summer Music Series on Saturday, June 25 at 7:30 p.m. at Centennial Park.

This New Jersey-based, experienced five-piece band led by the talented Remy St. Martin does well to recreate the festive, party atmosphere of a Jimmy Buffett concert. The band regularly performs Buffett classics such as “Margaritaville,” “A Pirate Looks At Forty,” “Why Don’t We Get Drunk,” “Changes In Latitude, Changes in Attitudes” as well other well known party hits connected with the summer season.

Billed as “your ultimate vacation destination,” Parrotbeach regularly appears at music festivals, corporate events, nightclubs, summer music series and casinos across the region. Crest announces lifeguard coverage for 2016 season

WCBP headquartersThe Wildwood Crest Beach Patrol has announced its lifeguard coverage schedule for the 2016 summer season.

All beaches will be open and protected from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for Memorial Day weekend, Saturday through Monday, May 28-30, as well as on Saturday and Sunday, June 4-5.

Beginning Saturday, June 11, all beaches will be open and protected daily, weather permitting, from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., through Monday, Sept. 5.

The Wildwood Crest Beach Patrol strongly urges the public to swim at lifeguard protected beaches only.
